Welcome to your new Club Captains for 2019

Captain

I can’t tell you how proud I am to be the 2019 Captain of Druids Heath Golf Club after some 35 years as a Member. What changes I’ve seen since then!

Back in 1984, when my wife, Jane and I joined the Club, it wasn’t much more than 10 years old and was sorely in need of the significant investment and development that have since turned it into such a great club to be a Member of and such a superb course to play, whatever your standard of golf.

We now have a thriving Membership, with representative teams at all levels and a wide range of Open Events throughout the year. We also have Club Competitions on most weekends, as well as some on weekdays, plus highly active Juniors’, Ladies’ and Seniors’ Sections, each of whom also organise their own competitions, opens and teams.

Like most Golf Clubs, we endeavour to raise money for charity through various golf and social events and this year, with the support of all of our Sections, I shall be focussing my efforts on the Midlands Air Ambulance Charity.

I’ve already experienced fantastic support from all of our Members, both generally and in fundraising and I’m sure that will continue throughout the year; I already owe a big thank you to so many people!

Here at Druids Heath, we’re proud to be able to offer all year round golf and the guarantee of a warm welcome to new Members and Visitors alike, both from our existing Members and from our top class Golf, Bar and Catering Teams. We’re also delighted to offer a wide range of packages for golf societies and corporate events.

So, why not have a look at us whether you’re planning your own future golf or your next day out/event and give us a ring – I’m sure we can provide something to suit you!

But, most important of all – enjoy your golf!

Lady's Captain: Steph Heath

As a 21 handicap lady golfer I have somehow managed to find myself with the honour and privilege of being Lady Captain of Druids Heath Golf Club 2019. Having only been playing since the beginning of 2011 no one is more surprized than me at this accolade.

I intend to ensure that this year is about playing golf and having fun! (for me and the Lady’s Section).

We all know that this great game of ours can frustrate us beyond belief. However, we must remember that for the vast majority of us it is only a game, so let’s all enjoy it and get better together.

I wish all the Ladies an enjoyable golfing year.

Tom Beard plays for the England Golf Disabled Team

It has been a brilliant year so far, off the back of my hard work last year I gained a place in the England Disabled Golf Team (@EDGT). Being a Club Foot golfer is a challenge within itself, but this brought along many more challenges to over come, the biggest of which was being selected to play against France in Dunkirk. This was a huge honour to represent my country for the first time, and it was an extremely close match coming down to me holing a 10 foot putt on the 18th green. This meant that our 6 man squad beat France, the reigning European Champions on French soil, which was incredible!

My next challenge was competing in The England Disabled Open, at The Warwickshire Golf & Country Club. This was the third time playing in this event with me getting my best finish, ending the tournament in 5th place. This was a great feat to compete against the best players Great Britain has to offer, also others from further afield such as Sweden and France. This has cemented my place in the England squad, and qualified me to enter into The Portugal Disabled Open (Algarve Open) to play against the top 60 players in the world. The tournament takes place on 23rd – 25th November 2017. I am so proud to be representing my club and country abroad and to gain my first ever World Ranking position!

My future aspirations are to continue to progress in the England Team, and one day be picked for Team GB at the Paralympic games; once golf gets the bid accepted for the 2024 games.

Local Pro James Adams Wins Euro Pro Event

James Adams carded rounds of 70, 65, and 66 to win the HotelPlanner.com PGA EuroPro Tour’s Clipper Logistics Championship by four shots, claiming his second tour win of the year.

Full Leaderboard

Adams (Druids Heath Golf Club), who had already tasted victory at the Motocaddy Masters at Wychwood Park Golf Club, collected just a single bogey across 54 holes at Moor Allerton Golf Club.

“I feel great, it is hard to put the win into words but it makes everything worth it.”: said Adams, who wins £10,000 as well as a brand new Motocaddy S3 PRO electric trolley with lithium battery, Bushnell Pro X2 Range Finder and Bolle sunglasses.

He added: “It’s probably the best I’ve ever played in a tournament. The weather was really tough, especially on the first day with the wind and heavy rain. The last two days have been great, to go bogey free across two rounds isn’t the norm for me.”

In total, Adams collected 13 birdies over 54 holes to win comfortably. His second win moves him to 5th in the Race To Amendoeira, from which the top five at the end of the season earn promotion to the Challenge Tour.

Adams’ second round was the joint lowest of the tournament, followed by a final round of 66 – the second lowest in a fantastic final round – a stellar effort taking into consideration a trophy was on the line.

On the chance of earning promotion to the Challenge Tour Adams said: “I haven’t really thought about it, I’ve never been in a better position in my career. I’ve played well this year, it’s really tough at this level with under-par cuts every week. I’m really looking forward to going out to Portugal and extending my season a little bit.”
